The Dugong

God has given us peace not just as an idea, but as a real force in our daily lives – and this work captures precisely that melancholic tranquility and peaceful serenity. As a "Gentle Guardian," the dugong glides through the undulating currents, far from the hustle and bustle. It stands for empathy, quiet observation, and a deep, natural connection to creation: the ability to be at peace with oneself and to face the tides of life with gentle constancy and true primal trust.

Executed in soft pastel on Pastelmat paper, the velvety surface accentuates the soft, flowing forms embedded in the shimmering underwater light. A strong interplay of soft transitions and shadows makes the stillness palpable and gives the animal a genuine, tangible weightlessness.

In traditional elemental theory, the work belongs to the element of water – symbolizing emotional depth, healing, intuition, and the flow of life that carries us.

I love manatees.

For me, they embody love, gentleness, and family. That's why a manatee mother and child adorn my arm as a tattoo. "Dugi" was even my nickname for several years.

Whether manatees or dugongs, I wish for nothing more than to snorkel with them one day and experience them face to face.
